Developers to follow…
If you are a developer, the best way to get the latest news or interesting links and references, is to follow some of the best developers around. I myself have a list of people I like to follow, some of them are quite known, others are not that famous but have some interesting things to say.
Here is a list of guys to follow, by blog or twitter.
Matthew Weier O’Phinney
I met him at Symfony Live 2010 and was one of the most remarkable and helpful people around. Although I’m not into Zend framework, he explained the Symfony-Zend link in 50 minutes.
I am an open source web developer and IT specialist. My expertise lies with LAMP setups — Linux – Apache – MySQL – Perl/PHP(/Python). I am capable of administering a variety of Linux distributions, including Gentoo, Debian, Red Hat, Fedora, Slackware, as well as several other Debian- and RPM-based distros. In addition, I am skilled at installing and maintaining Apache, PHP, Perl, and MySQL on each of the distros previously mentioned, typically from source.
My primary skills are as a PHP developer. I am a Zend Certified Engineer, and a member of the Zend Education Advisory Board, the group responsible for authoring the Zend Certification Exam. I contribute to a number of PHP projects, blog on PHP-related topics, and present talks and tutorials related to PHP development and the projects to which I contribute.
Jeff Atwood
This is certainly one of the top bloggers. A great way of writing and recognizable by the coding horror image he borrowed from the code complete books.
I’m Jeff Atwood. I live in Berkeley, CA with my wife, two cats, and a whole lot of computers. I was weaned as a software developer on various implementations of Microsoft’s BASIC in the 80′s, starting with my first microcomputer, the Texas Instruments TI-99/4a. I continued on the PC with Visual Basic 3.0 and Windows 3.1 in the early 90′s, although I also spent significant time writing Pascal code in the first versions of Delphi. I am now quite comfortable in VB.NET or C#, despite the evils of case sensitivity. I consider myself a reasonably experienced Windows software developer with a particular interest in the human side of software development, as represented in my recommended developer reading list. Computers are fascinating machines, but they’re mostly a reflection of the people using them. In the art of software development, studying code isn’t enough: you have to study the people behind the software, too.
Stefan Koopmanschap
Community, community, community and oh yes, community. This guy is the driving force behind the Symfony, Zend and PHPBB community and for the future I do believe that this might become more and more important. I interviewed him before if you would like to know more about him.
Juozas Kaziukėnas
This is a promising talented guy, he won last years European WinPHP Challenge, and has a blog on which he explains a lot of his development experiences in a clear way.
I am experienced and talented (some say) young professional, working with all kind of web projects, starting from small to medium websites and ending with enterprise business tools. My hands-on practice with collection of different technologies and programming languages allows me to provide rapid development speeds and top-noch features.
Scott Berkun
I’m currently reading a book that he wrote, ‘making things happen’, and I must say that he is really inspiring. A project management book on software development with examples of his own experiences at Microsoft. I recommend this book to anyone, and will for sure write a book report in the next few weeks.
